Remarc interview

28 June 2011

We are incredibly proud to announce that one of the original jungle legends will play the closing set at our boat rave this Saturday 2 July.

Remarc is one of the originators of jungle music, a supreme master and true pioneer of the art of chopping breaks. His first release came out on vinyl back in ’93 – not long after the term “jungle” was first coined. Leading the way with his prototype junglist experimentations, Remarc created a large following for himself and inspired successive generations of producers and ravers with his forward thinking drum programming and heavyweight sonic force.

Remarc systematically tore apart and rearranged the amen break like never before – creating timeless classics in the process. Tracks such as R.I.P, Sound murderer, Ice Cream & Syrup and Ricky still get rewound countless times at raves, shaking 21st century foundations with their mighty low end and catching ravers off guard with clever and playful edits. In recent years Mike Paradinas signed him to Planet Mu, joining the likes of Venetian Snares, Boxcutter, Luke Vibert and Milanese on a hugely eclectic and futuristic roster.

The legend himself kindly took time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions for us. Enjoy!

High Rankin Interview & FREE downloads

9 June 2011

We are incredibly proud to announce the return of moustachioed bass loving mentalist, toy monkey seller, celebrity sex therapist and self styled “jungle ponce” High Rankin.

Mr Rankin is a bonafide Braindrop legend. We first booked him for our 2nd ever party at Jacks club, London Bridge. Back then he was making a name for himself on the D&B scene with his hard edged, breakcore-esque junglist productions. We next booked him in December 2008. This time he gave us a special mix for us to distribute to the Braindrop family. It featured a selection of his own dubstep experiments – relatively new territory for him at the time.

Since then High Rankin has exploded onto the dubstep / bass music scene- bringing a huge and ever growing international following in his wake. He’s remixed Professor Green, The Count & Sinden and Si Begg to name a few. He’s taken the internet by storm with his comedy viral tunes “Meow Meow” and “Don’t Carry on Like a Rude Boy when Daddy’s got a Yaught”. And he’s overseen the rise and rise of his own Suicide Dub label – having released material by the likes of Hostage, Balkansky and Temper D.

High Rankin is headlining our 3rd annual boat rave. Expect maximum bassline carnage, ranging from the filthiest dubstep, through to skanky 4×4 business and junglist murkage.

We caught up with the man himself to ask him some questions. And we’ve included some free music for you to download at the bottom of the page. Enjoy! Read More >

Download Matamatiks & Beaton’s “3D” mix

16 March 2011

Those of you who came to our first Braindrop of 2011 will remember conscious junglists Matamatiks and Beaton ripping up The Macbeth’s soundsystem with some serious amen bassweight. A 2 man DJ / production team, their forward thinking sets join the dots between bassbin worrying jungle and techy drum ‘n’ bass steppas – with a few curveballs thrown in for good measure.

The guys also run their own night, the excellent Temple of Bass, currently based in the heart of East London. We’re a big fan of ToB’s underground line ups – having booked the likes of Icicle, Jubei and Ulterior Motive for their respective brands of stripped back, low end mischief.

With releases on Acidic Records ready to drop you can be sure to hear more from them in 2011. And the lovely chaps have uploaded an exceedingly heavy mix to give you a wee taster of what they’re about. Read More >

Rrritalin interview & free download

30 January 2011

We are very proud to welcome back mutant bass aficionado Rrritalin. Tim (as his mother lovingly calls him) and us go back a long way. Along with his fellow bass heads Codeshift, DJ Rum and Mash for Cash, Tim started throwing parties under the Yardcore moniker very soon after we threw our first Braindrop. They earned a real name for themselves, booking artists such as The Bug, Boxcutter, Breakage, Hellfish, Amit, Limewax, Vex’d – and gaining personal respect and big ups from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbes. After a few years of forward thinking line ups, they shifted their focus to music production, and launched a very popular radio show on the award winning Sub FM.

Tim makes high octane, exceedingly heavy rave-bass music. And he’s rather good at it too. He’s just enjoyed a very successful debut release on the excellent Coin Operated imprint (currently riding high at no 1 in the Juno “Speed Garage” chart) – and from listening to his unreleased dubs it looks like there’s big tings in store for this guy in 2011.

Rrritalin has smashed the Braindrop dancefloor to pieces every time we’ve invited him to play. Using the beat mangling powers of Ableton, his sets are full throttle, genre smashing, white knuckle rides through future rave murkage. You guys are in for a treat!

We caught up with Rrritalin to ask him some important questions about production, ADHD and Cornish Piskies. And you can download a sick mix from him at the bottom of this page. Read More >

16bit interview & mix

9 June 2010

First time we met Jason and Eddie 16bit was back in February 2009. We’d only just heard of them, having recently bought newly released screwface anthem Chainsaw Calligraphy and the massively catchy Ford Fiesta. At that time we were blown away by their production skills, and by the fact that these incredibly gifted but more-or-less unknown musicians were so young. We knew it was only a matter of time before they blew up.

Fast forward 1 year and 4 months and they’ve smashed it. They’re toured Europe, the USA and Australasia. They’ve provided the soundtrack to a high profile Nike Campaign (their huge dancefloor enthem “Jump”), they’ve remixed Noisia to great critical acclaim and they were personally selected by Chase & Status as support acts on their high profile live tour. The 2010 Dubstep Forum awards saw them win the best mixtape category with their eclectic Milky Pie mix, as well as beating the likes of Skream, Benga, Breakage, Mala, Martyn and Ramadanman to secure 2nd place in the best producer category.

We are very proud to have them playing at the Braindrop Robo-Pirate Boat Rave. We caught up with Jason from 16bit to ask him a few questions. And download their Milky Pie mix at the bottom of the page. Read More >
